Etsy Shop Crush: Remixed Vintage

I ♥ collages and decoupage, so when I came upon these upcycled and delightfully decorated little boxes and carry cases by judythejazzcat, I became a little giddy! Aren't they charming? My favorite is the colorful red one with the zebra. What a perfect little case for keeping make-up and other miscellaneous girly stuff!

Check out her shop, Remixed Vintage, here.

Homage To My Hips by Lucille Clifton

"these hips are big hips.
they need space to
move around in.

they don't fit into little
petty places. these hips
are free hips.

they don't like to be held back.
these hips have never been enslaved,
they go where they want to go
they do what they want to do.

these hips are mighty hips.
these hips are magic hips.

i have known them
to put a spell on a man and
spin him like a top!"

Novelty Print of the Day -- vintage 60's FACE IN THE CROWD Mini Dress

I know, I know! It's another face print, but it's so cute, isn't it? Especially with those darling puff sleeves and that flirtatious mini length. A groovy little get-up that is guaranteed not to be on anyone else; one of THE best reasons to choose a vintage novelty print piece, if I do say so myself. ;)

For sale by Hellhound Vintage on Ebay.

Take a girl like that and put her in a natural setting

Here's a little Friday shop update of red, white, and black. I'm very guilty of putting probably way too much of my favorite 3 colors in the shop.

Enjoy your weekend, dear blogger friends. ♥

Oh, and the title of this post comes from the fun song below!

Listening to: Beethoven (I love to listen to) by the Eurythmics.
This melodramatic performance by Annie Lennox is fabulous, love her!

Domestic Bliss gone awry!

United Colors of Advertising

When I was growing up in the 1990's, I looked up to my high school aged brother constantly for inspiration. At the time, he had taped many Benetton advertisements to his bedroom wall. He was in love with the brand and would often save money from his job to buy their clothes.
The bright ads were unforgettable.
I always loved the celebration of diversity depicted in many of them. Some ads were often thought of to be too risque and controversial and covered topics from Aids to domestic violence to death row. Of course, only the PG and PG13 ads were allowed on my big brother's wall, per mom and dad.
Find a history of ad campaigns from the Italian company here.

"The purpose of advertising is not to sell more. It's to do with institutional publicity, whose aim is to communicate the company's values.... We need to convey a single strong image, which can be shared anywhere in the world."
- Luciano Benetton

Novelty Print of the Day -- 1960's VICTORIAN TEA PARTY Palazzo Pants Set

I *love* this print!
Such a merry afternoon scene on this 1960's
Palazzo pants & halter top set.
Victorian women just sit around mingling and having tea, oh the life. There's something about the mix of bright and light colors too! I love that bold red parasol. Ladies dressed up and then put on a piece of clothing as a print always strikes my fancy!

For sale by myu- on Ebay.

Happy Birthday, Sis!

Today my baby sister celebrates her . . . twenty-something birthday. ;)
Thank God for this beautiful woman below (Mama) who gave birth to my sis 5 years after I was born, otherwise I would have just been stuck with 2 brothers!
Lucky to be named after my late Grandmother Dolores, my sis usually goes by the name "Loli" .

I remember the day you were born! I couldn't wait till Mom brought you home because you were like a new doll to me.
Birthday money burning a hole in your pocket for the latest cabbage patch kid!

Remember when you were a little girl and had a huge crush on THIS GUY? hahaha!!
Gotta admit, he is a handsome fella!

Cheers to many more, Loli Guacamole!!

Love these boys.

You've always loved this song, and everyone knows it, so I know I'm not
the only one who associates it with you!

Hood of the car, sometime in the 1990's at night time singing at the top of

Novelty Print of the Day -- 1980's MATISSE-INSPIRED Bright Strapless Silk Dress

I love when a particular artist inspires a textile design.
In this case, it's Henri Matisse.
Bold happy shapes dance on this vintage 1980's strapless SILK dress. I adore the bright colors against the black background, and the hearts on the moving bodies -- precious! What an all around fun and feel-good print. Do you guys remember on last season's project runway when the designers got to create their own printed textiles? I want to do that one of these days! (Added to the list of creative dream endeavors.)

Dress for sale by nevertoomanyprettythings on Ebay.

Wednesday Wishlist -- The Ruffled White Blouse

The white blouse: the perfect staple for the summer season because it's light, beautiful, feminine, and goes with nearly everything. I chose to feature the ruffled styles, inspired by the Bettina blouse post earlier.

Just be careful in your pretty white shirt, if you're anything like me you'll need to be carrying around a stain remover stick in your purse to have on hand at any given moment.
Stains love me, especially when I'm wearing white.
