Homage To My Hips by Lucille Clifton

"these hips are big hips.
they need space to
move around in.

they don't fit into little
petty places. these hips
are free hips.

they don't like to be held back.
these hips have never been enslaved,
they go where they want to go
they do what they want to do.

these hips are mighty hips.
these hips are magic hips.

i have known them
to put a spell on a man and
spin him like a top!"

  1. speaking as a lady with big hips... i love it! great post :)

  2. oh my god. i love this post! don't you love that burlesque womanly look, it's so refreshing compared to todays models. love it love it
    naughty mess vintage

  3. When I was a little girl, I couldn't wait to grow up to be hip-y! ;)
I was too skinny at the time and hated it. I DO think this look is refreshing. I hate when models look like they're on heroin.
