Tiny and Shiny -- Show & Tell

It was Duff of JeanJean Vintage who first had me really thinking about my jewelry collection. I enjoyed her jewelry box tour posts and was inspired to do a little post featuring some of my own pieces -- finally getting around to doing just that! I've never been much of a jewelry girl at all actually, but after going through every tiny and/or shiny little thing from 2 jewelry boxes, I realize I have more than I knew, and sifting through it also gave me the chance to get rid of what I no longer wear, something that needed to be done a long time ago!

Looking over this collection of pretties I've been holding onto makes me realize that I've had many of these items since I was a teen! I think it's time for a few more sophisticated pieces now that I am enjoying my 3rd decade of life and feeling that just maybe I know a thing or two about accessorizing (still learning, believe me!). Below is what I'll be keeping!

The Tiny and Shiny Collage... with a few common themes ::

Things that fly and meow.

Fruit (reminds me of Carmen Miranda, love her!)
IMG_1454
Little boxes or containers in which to keep secrets/hide money from myself for a rainy day. The peacock pill box is a thrifted find that made me want to start collecting pill boxes. They're so tiny and cute. The "Happiness" box and "guardian angel" inside were both gifts after my Grandma passed away, so I often keep that one in my purse as a reminder of her.

Things that remind me of my childhood. (Aren't those roller skate earrings so cool?) They were a gift from Kerri of Ten Things for the premiere of Drew Barrymore's Whip-it, a movie filmed right here in Michigan that I was lucky to be a part of in 2008. That glittering unicorn necklace has yet to see the light of day, but I had to have it when I saw it!

Hearts.  Because ♫ Love is a many splendored thing!♫
IMG_1457
Flowers, I think they just make so many outfits prettier.
IMG_1465
things that remind me of growing up "country". Lol
IMG_1469
makin' a statement::
Like to wear this pin on days I'm feeling a little low, it makes me laugh. :-p
IMG_1455
ohhhh, just a little pair of earrings I usually like to put on after a romantic break up. ;-p aren't these funny?

definitely want to add some more necklaces & bracelets soon! I'm open to links of vintage pieces from Etsy if you've got a suggestion based on my interests above! :)

Different Flowers from the Same Garden

Return of the SWAMP LADY MONSTERS. (pardon my spotty mirror, I'm such a terrible housekeeper!)
My sis surprised me with a visit on Saturday. We ended up doing all sorts of girly things: homemade face masks, painting our nails, dressing up, having a lil' 2 girl dance party in my small apartment, and of COURSE talking about boys... :-p

My mom keeps a framed picture of us together that says, "Sisters are Different Flowers from the Same Garden". Isn't it crazy how different 2 sisters can be? I joke with her that she's Sporty Spice & I'm Scary Spice. She likes yoga, I prefer dance. She wears cotton jersey EVERYTHING, prefers brand spankin' new clothes, and hates puff sleeves. As you know I love vintage, really don't have a strong desire EVER for the mall ('cept Sephora!), and prefer girly details in my outfits. Different indeed! But sisters can be wonderful friends by default, and this girl knows me through and through. Because of this, it's nice to get her perspective when things go awry in my life. Also, I think it's amazing how relationships with siblings change over time - from kids to adults. A little over a year ago she was going to move to California. I'm so glad she didn't!

We have a creative project we've just started and I can't wait to share details!!!

Antiquing

Just a few snapshots from last weekend's antiquing adventures! I'm curious about this real hair art framed picture...

Almost bought this pretty lady picture, but I had to save my mula for clothes!

Fascinated by this old horse bike. The little girl in me wanted it so much!

Cutest or what?! I <3 Snoopy.

I know I'm supposed to love the clothes, (AND I DO!) but this is 1 of my favorite parts about ANY antique or thrift store. OLD BOOKS! Love the smell of those aging pages.

Flowers in Her Hair, Flowers Everywhere!

Just knowing spring is around the corner makes me want to start making daisy chains for my hair. (especially while listening to the song below) ;) I've been keeping flowers in a vase on my kitchen table all winter long pretty much, and they honestly light up the room when the sunshine doesn't feel like coming out for the day. Just writing about it makes me want to go grab a few more bouquets of color! Here are some pretty florals in the shop right now, most added just recently. My favorite of the bunch is the SPANISH ROSE dress. (2nd pic down) I am weak in the knees for off shoulder florals ~ and this one reminds me so much of my beautiful Mexican Grandma, the lovely woman the shop was named after!

Rossy de Palma on Shoes

Listen to what Rossy de Palma, the Picassoesque Spanish actress, has to say about shoes. I know she's talking about Louboutins, but I feel the same way about my favorite vintage pair of candy apple red heels. (wearing them here in this summer outfit) Do you have a pair of shoes that make you feel this way?  Love the nod to Elsa Schiaparelli with that shoe hat!

Still Cold

It's still cold outside, girls! The Mitten has actually been quite mild this winter, and you will NEVER hear me complaining about what seemed to be the sunniest January we've had since I've been alive. Guess what though? It's still cold! (Anything under 60 degrees is cold to me) ;)

Here are a few recently listed flannel, wool, angora & knit pretties in the shop that are perfect for keeping warm until spring arrives.
