Different Flowers from the Same Garden

Return of the SWAMP LADY MONSTERS. (pardon my spotty mirror, I'm such a terrible housekeeper!)
My sis surprised me with a visit on Saturday. We ended up doing all sorts of girly things: homemade face masks, painting our nails, dressing up, having a lil' 2 girl dance party in my small apartment, and of COURSE talking about boys... :-p

My mom keeps a framed picture of us together that says, "Sisters are Different Flowers from the Same Garden". Isn't it crazy how different 2 sisters can be? I joke with her that she's Sporty Spice & I'm Scary Spice. She likes yoga, I prefer dance. She wears cotton jersey EVERYTHING, prefers brand spankin' new clothes, and hates puff sleeves. As you know I love vintage, really don't have a strong desire EVER for the mall ('cept Sephora!), and prefer girly details in my outfits. Different indeed! But sisters can be wonderful friends by default, and this girl knows me through and through. Because of this, it's nice to get her perspective when things go awry in my life. Also, I think it's amazing how relationships with siblings change over time - from kids to adults. A little over a year ago she was going to move to California. I'm so glad she didn't!

We have a creative project we've just started and I can't wait to share details!!!

Antiquing

Just a few snapshots from last weekend's antiquing adventures! I'm curious about this real hair art framed picture...

Almost bought this pretty lady picture, but I had to save my mula for clothes!

Fascinated by this old horse bike. The little girl in me wanted it so much!

Cutest or what?! I <3 Snoopy.

I know I'm supposed to love the clothes, (AND I DO!) but this is 1 of my favorite parts about ANY antique or thrift store. OLD BOOKS! Love the smell of those aging pages.

Flowers in Her Hair, Flowers Everywhere!

Just knowing spring is around the corner makes me want to start making daisy chains for my hair. (especially while listening to the song below) ;) I've been keeping flowers in a vase on my kitchen table all winter long pretty much, and they honestly light up the room when the sunshine doesn't feel like coming out for the day. Just writing about it makes me want to go grab a few more bouquets of color! Here are some pretty florals in the shop right now, most added just recently. My favorite of the bunch is the SPANISH ROSE dress. (2nd pic down) I am weak in the knees for off shoulder florals ~ and this one reminds me so much of my beautiful Mexican Grandma, the lovely woman the shop was named after!

Rossy de Palma on Shoes

Listen to what Rossy de Palma, the Picassoesque Spanish actress, has to say about shoes. I know she's talking about Louboutins, but I feel the same way about my favorite vintage pair of candy apple red heels. (wearing them here in this summer outfit) Do you have a pair of shoes that make you feel this way?  Love the nod to Elsa Schiaparelli with that shoe hat!

Still Cold

It's still cold outside, girls! The Mitten has actually been quite mild this winter, and you will NEVER hear me complaining about what seemed to be the sunniest January we've had since I've been alive. Guess what though? It's still cold! (Anything under 60 degrees is cold to me) ;)

Here are a few recently listed flannel, wool, angora & knit pretties in the shop that are perfect for keeping warm until spring arrives.

Emily in Lace - Customer Appreciation Photo!

I'm elated every time I receive a customer appreciation photo along with feedback for an item! Isn't Emily a thing of beauty in this pink lace 1930s dress below? She mentioned that the dress was a big hit when she wore it to a Depression era style wedding recently. YAY!

I adore how she paired it with the lace hat & pearls. Just had to share, and wanted to thank this lovely etsian for allowing me to post her wearing Lola Vintage. This photo made my day! Do you have a photo of yourself wearing an item you've bought from the shop? If so, email it to me, and receive a discount on your next purchase!

Life away from Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor

Hello again blogger friends. I recently took a small much-needed vacation from the internet, do you ever need those? It was mainly to remember what I loved outside of the cyberworld again. I don't like forgetting about those things... and I feel like sometimes it's easy to, especially when so much of my day is spent online. Don't get me wrong, I love my little Etsy business, and I am grateful to be able to have part of my income come from self-employment. However, I noticed I was starting to think of my computer as a TIME SUCKER. Sometimes it feels like there are a zillion sites to "report" to on a weekly basis. Ever feel like you can't keep up? It gets a little overwhelming. I think a WWW vacay is necessary every once in a while, to get back in touch with one's own thoughts and creative pursuits. I feel like I used to be much more creative, and I miss that!

How's your relationship with the internet? Is it hard to be disciplined about your time on it?

I'm hoping that this little break has given me inspiration to start blogging more creatively on a regular basis. Only time will tell. ;)

Here are a couple of photos taken while I was away.

Meeting a new furry friend: I can't wait to have a dog again one day.

Shadow silhouettes with my son: He's growing up so fast, I feel like he's changing over night these days.
