I'm a girl who loves clothes, and for a long time the extent of my mindset concerning fabric was that it was primarily something that made up the many items hanging in my closet. That is, until one day a few years ago when one of my college professors introduced me to the magic of textile art by handing me a few of her old Fiberarts magazines. Right there I was hooked on this new way of looking at cloth! I was delighted to come upon a textile artist in the Etsy finds this week whose work I instantly adored. How creative and charming these touchable and bright canvases are! Of course, you know I do really love how the theme flirts with fashion too. :) Aren't they pretty?
Oh, Lanvin! This is fantastic! Being a comedy lover myself, I immediately fell head over heels for this dress featuring the caricatures of the comic greats Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. This shirtwaist jersey frock is just one more reason of millions to appreciate vintage clothing! One more amazing one-of-a-kind finds in the world of online shopping. One more dress I'll be swooning over in my ridiculously long list of "dresses I'm in love with".
And of course I have to leave you with one of my favorite quotes!
"A day without laughter is a day wasted." -Charlie Chaplin

Wow! The Woodstock crowd photographed and then put on a pair of pants? Super cool! And still NWT from the 1970's? Yes, definitely RARE. Just wait till you see the price tag on these! Can you imagine how fun it would be if someone recognized him or herself in this photo, though? ;)
Truth be told, though I've bought many pretty vintage items online, I've never purchased a pair of pants via the net. I've always been too afraid of the pants not working out for my body/fitting right if I don't actually get to try them on. You too? For some reason though, I've been suddenly coming across these amazing pairs of pants that I feel like I may need to break down and purchase a few pair for myself for this Autumn season, and just cross my fingers that they'll look good.
These are some of my current faves below. I am, as probably aforementioned on many posts, a huge fan of the high waist. I love how it elongates the legs and defines the waist as well. Some of these vintage pairs styled below do such a fine job of making menswear look feminine. Definitely a wish list item for Fall 2010!
Prink Studio These are, hands down, my fave! They are vintage YSL, and wool. I love the waist buttons! Bustown Modern How to make menswear look fabulous! Wicked Plum The rolled cuffs probably wouldn't work for me, but they definitely do for this model. Love the color of this pair for fall. The Mint Mall A bit on the tighter side, but the color is fantastic, and imagine these paired with some tall boots. *perfect combination* Funkin Junkie Buttery soft vintage leather in black, could work with so many outfits. Hollywood *Rose* Vintage These look so classic, I love that they're belted and tapered.
Summers lovely hot days are coming to a close, and that means shop inventory needs to change!
I do love this feeling of renewal and change in the air, but will miss my warm weather days SO much, oh yes I will. I think this fall, though, I'm really gonna try working on my layering techniques. That's something I'm looking forward to as I've never really gotten into it, and can't wait to experiment. How 'bout you? Any new fashion ideas a' brewin' in your mind for Autumn? Karen over at Small Earth Vintage also has me wanting to try out the bow tie. I love this look from her blog.
Take advantage of many, and I mean MANY markdowns in the shop on these items below and more. These beauties are meant for warm weather, so if you're in the right place right now where you're about to be entering your summer season (Aussies!) this is the perfect time to snatch these pieces up! XOXO
I think I must've mentioned this book in my tweets and blog over a baker's dozen times, but it's really been such an inspiring read for me as far as giving that little push to take up the things I haven't yet got to in my life. One of those things is TAP DANCING! Years ago, when I used to work in a daycare at the YMCA, I would walk by the dance studio where tap was being taught and always catch myself staring in with that certain feeling of longing (do you know this feeling?) that kept telling me to get myself signed up for lessons. Well, I never did unfortunately, but hopefully plan to within the next year.
Do you know how there are some things you just know are true about yourself? For me, one of those things is that I love to DANCE. I think dance is one of the most exhilarating and powerful forms of self-expression that exists. In the past I've taken ballroom, ballet, beledi, and even hula lessons if you can believe it. I loved aspects of all three forms, but there still remains in me this desire to put on those shiny black shoes and make some fireworks with my feet!
Do you have a preferred dance form, or have you taken tap? Any advice on this new little tappin' adventure you can give me? I would be ever so grateful!
Right now I'm doing a bit of research on Eleanor Powell, the incredible tap dancer from the 30's and 40's. Of course she and Fred Astaire make it look like a BREEZE in this video.
Isn't sheamazing? And thank goodness for youtube, because I even found these videos to give myself a little warm-up before I start taking classes. :)
