Woman Under The Influence

Realize she's in a different place,
Realize her lack of social grace,
She can take the smile off his face,
He wants to take her somewhere she'll be safe...

- "Mabel" by the Juliana Hatfield Three

My favorite scene! Her swan dance in the yard.

Who knew that many years after I'd fallen in love with the song "Mabel" by the Juliana Hatfield Three, I'd find out that it was actually written as a tribute to a woman in a movie. Woman Under the Influence stars Gena Rowlands as an eccentric middle-aged wife and mother who will not accept that most people think she's crazy. Maybe she actually is a little nuts, but I love her spunk in this movie! Peter Falk costars as her husband. The movie is a bit long at almost 2 1/2 hours, but if you've got time you won't be disappointed in her performance. Be warned however, you may tear up more than once, this is a love story that will make your heart hurt a little.

Let the Colors Fall

I just HAD to share this video I viewed on Tawnya's blog today. I loved watching it this morning with tea in hand. Goodness, this is the kind of thing that makes me feel like I'm starving for more creativity in my life. Hope you enjoy the many falling colors as much as I did, it's truly entrancing!

Denim in Bloom

What do you guys think about floral print jeans? I love 'em, and probably have since my high school years, but only when they're done right. Recently found these late 80's/early 90's Gap pair for the shop, but then OOPS tried them on and decided to keep. I think the variety of colorful flowers looks pretty against the chartreuse background, and I like the high waist fit too. These will definitely get plenty of wear for spring when I'm in the mood for florals and even more florals!

If you also happen to be a fan of floral denim, below are a few of my etsy faves. Aren't those little mini dresses CUTE?

Bread Skirts and Waffle Pants

I'm always entertained by food-as-fashion projects, as you may have noticed. Wouldn't it be fun to make a garment out of some kind of food? Has me looking at the things in my fridge a little differently. ;)

Burgundy loves Brown

Amusingly, this outfit started with just the hat, a cute little brown knit hat my sis just happened to leave at my house this weekend. I wanted to make an outfit revolving around it and this is what I came up with! I like the colors burgundy and brown together very much, and though there are a few different shades of brown here, I still thought it worked. It's got a bit of a 70's feel to it also. Not sure if it's apparent in the pics, but I did my makeup a little darker for this outfit. I'm just LOVING the makeup from the Marc Jacobs SS2011 collection. If you haven't seen it, I've just posted a closeup on my tumblr a day ago. The blackberry lipstick is so gosh darn pretty! XOXO

Happy Friday to all of you!

Brown knit hat - belongs to my sis
Crochet 70's striped top - borrowed from the shop
70's Garnet corduroy high waist skirt - just sold!

VERABEL on Etsy has stolen my heart today with every single one of these vintage Peacock-inspired jewelry pieces. The stunning bright, rich colors of each piece are enough to to perk up any outfit. According to the listings, the peacocks are silk screened onto the vintage jewelry. Well done, Verabel. I'm in love. Be sure to view the rest of their shop for more brilliantly colorful necklaces, bracelets, lockets, and earrings.
