Hello again blogger friends. I recently took a small much-needed vacation from the internet, do you ever need those? It was mainly to remember what I loved outside of the cyberworld again. I don't like forgetting about those things... and I feel like sometimes it's easy to, especially when so much of my day is spent online. Don't get me wrong, I love my little Etsy business, and I am grateful to be able to have part of my income come from self-employment. However, I noticed I was starting to think of my computer as a TIME SUCKER. Sometimes it feels like there are a zillion sites to "report" to on a weekly basis. Ever feel like you can't keep up? It gets a little overwhelming. I think a WWW vacay is necessary every once in a while, to get back in touch with one's own thoughts and creative pursuits. I feel like I used to be much more creative, and I miss that!

How's your relationship with the internet? Is it hard to be disciplined about your time on it?

I'm hoping that this little break has given me inspiration to start blogging more creatively on a regular basis. Only time will tell. ;)

It's been a minute, I know. But MY GOODNESS there were holidays. . . and then birthdays near the holidays. . . and then my son was on break from school, and finally my mind was all, "please, please! I just need some quiet time." So that's what I've been giving it.

Time to focus on the shop again, though! And here's the first batch for January. I'm kind of in love with that panda sweater, so someone buy it quick, before I steal it outta my own shop! Took a ME day recently.

What that looks like: taking about an hour to get dressed and being "in" it. I mean to say... enjoying it and not feeling guilty for doing so. I say this because it seems like I'm rushing so much as of late and I really don't like that feeling. Do you know what I'm talking about, my friends? Maybe it's the season, feel like there are a gazillion + 2 things going on right now. And this person needs you for this...and that person needs you for that. Overwhelming holidays, I guess!

A "me" day usually means getting dressed up purrrdy and taking my journal and some books to my favorite cafe while indulging in a mocha with extra whip cream, but this particular day it meant spoiling myself just a little with some goodies from Aveda and Sephora with birthday money.It's so easy to spend an hour+ in Sephora!

I've mentioned these pants, they're not vintage but Donna Karan, found at a consignment shop. And this top. OMG, so in love with it. bought it at a local vintage boutique, and was almost CERTAIN it wouldn't fit me. utterly ELATED when I found out I was wrong! I encourage you 150% to take a day ALL FOR YOURSELF at the very least once per month. :) It's become a necessity to me.

Show and Tell: Hot Dog Cookbook

Not sure I would ever call hot dog recipes "tempting" but wanted to show you guys this lol book I found during my weekend thrifting trip with my siblings. That picture on the front disturbs me. The hot dog cook book is almost as depressing as the microwave cooking for 1 cookbook, remember that one? NO, I didn't buy it, just snapped a pic before we left the store. However, wouldn't you know we had a craving for a dog just after shopping! Ended up treating my brother & sis to this little coney island that serves one of my favorite guilty pleasures... the cheesie weenie (cheddar stuffed bacon wrapped hotdogs) and we left with full bellies and a very healthy helping of guilt.

The wiggle or sheath dress is one of my favorite silhouettes! But it's the leopard print collar that made this particular outfit have that certain FUN factor for me. ;) Isn't it crazy cute? It's detachable (so it can be added onto any kind of outfit), and I quite fancy how it adds just a smidgen o' sass to an otherwise tame little getup.

Can't help it! I completely thought of this scene when I was wearing this!

Dressing Rodney

We thrifters know that pretty clothes aren't the only cool thing to come upon while spending hours hunting the second hand stores! Meet Rodney, the best dressed pig you're ever going to see! The reason why I just had to have this cute little guy is because I used to have a drama teacher named Rodney and I looooooved him so much! And what's more is that he too was fabulously dressed, with a cute round belly and a constant smile that gave away his sincerely enthusiastic outlook on life. After I found this little pig, I googled Rodney my old teacher to get back in touch. Ended up finding out he now teaches at a different college in MI, sent him a message over facebook just yesterday, and can't wait to hear back from him! I think I need to repackage this little guy and send him to my old favorite teacher as a gift. Which outfit do you like the best? I prefer the court jester look. :) Paper dolls are so fun, it's been years since I've played with them!

Designer JC de Castelbajac doesn't ever want us to forget about our childhood. I *love* these shirts he created for his SS 2011 line! I read the story The Little Prince when I was a girl, and shared it with my son when he was about 8. Castelbajac has very easily become one of my favorite designers ever, so don't be surprised if I am doing another post on him in the future!

Pretend Bangs & Plaid

I've been nervous to hold any pair of scissors lately because I'm aching for a new hairstyle, and I'm afraid I'll have one of those impulsive moments of cutting my hair all by myself. Have you ever had one of those? I've regretted it almost always, but I know I need to do something different, and SOON. So... this was my small attempt to change it up, and manipulate my hair to look as if I had bangs. (just pinned it back & put a hat on). This time of the year usually means dressing darker, but I would've looked like I was in mourning if I hadn't paired this black 50's dress with some color. Cue cute plaid blazer that has NEVER BEEN WORN since purchase over a year ago. Yes... just one of those items that sits in the back of the closet begging for some attention. "Pick me! Pick me!" so I did, and really ended up liking the result.

This little creature of immense fur is JACK. He reminds me to take some time to relax. Sadly, he doesn't even belong to me, he belongs to my brother, but since we're neighbors I often get a chance to cat-sit and spend some quality time with him. Needless to say, I love being an "aunt" to this fuzzy little guy!

Sometimes a girl needn't look further than old vintage pics on etsy for some great fashion inspiration! I have such an adoration for bows, so I couldn't wait to share these! These photos came from the shops subversivefemme and vintageknitcrochet, and are actually pictures for knitting pattern advertisements from the past. Aren't they gorgeous creations? I imagined the pieces above without the bows and thought I likely wouldn't favor them as much as I do WITH them. My favorite are the first two sweater blouses, any knitters out there want to make me one like one of those? :)

One of the hardest items to photograph are PANTS, any kind of bottoms really. This is why I feel the need to hire a model sometimes.

So you can imagine how grateful I was when I received this appreciation photo from one of my repeat customers, the beautiful Julie of Very Boutique. Doesn't she look terrific? My wall just doesn't cut it compared to the outfit pic of this pretty gal! Great styling, Julie! Those pants look like they fit like a glove, and I love how she paired them with a waist-defining shiny black belt & perfectly fit V-neck knit top.

First Favorite Dress, Age 3

Do you remember your very first favorite dress? This one below was mine. I was 3 when this picture was taken. Is it crazy that I remember battling my mother to be able to wear this little red puff sleeve polka-dot number? She wanted me to wear something brown to match the rest of the family. Because MATCHING is so important, didn't you know? ;) I protested. When the two flaps in front on the dress were opened, a happy smiling Pooh Bear could be seen underneath enjoying his sweet pot o' honey. How could I ever forget?

My awfully cut terribly short bangs courtesy of my older brother who decided to play barber for a day sometime before this picture was taken. *sigh*

In my never ending battle for organization, I'm going through my zillions of old pictures with 4 projects so far.

She Wore a Raspberry Beret, Yeah That Kind

I haven't worn pants for a about a week straight and it feels wonderful! ;)

I made a promise to myself that for a week I would try to go pantless and just layer stuff with my dresses to keep warm. This is one of those outfits. Do you ever get tired of wearing pants and jeans? I thought it was a good time to pull out some dresses that I never, ever wear. Took this pic while out and about running errands. Honest to betsey, I was SO comfy in this outfit. I felt like I could wear it or something like it for the rest of the week. The first layer is a long bias cut rayon black dress that's actually kinda fancy, until I covered it with a cashmere gray sweater (WARM), and my favorite zip up sweater that for the life of me, no matter how pilly it gets, I can never get rid of-- do you have one like this? The colorful felted wool purse has received many compliments when I'm out, with one man recently saying it looks like "something out of a Dr. Suess book". And finally, the red glass heart necklace is from a craft show earlier this year, by a darling of a lady named Carey Gustafson of Glass Action who just happens to be on etsy as well!

As much love as I have for my mitten state, when the cold starts coming in, I start wishing I was a bear, and could hibernate and sleep it all away until summer comes back around again. So in my yearly effort to stay positive about the season changing from warm to cold again, I'm trying to get my layering down pat, putting together cute warm and cozy outfits (sans pants? even better!). S.A.D. you will not beat me this year this year! My friends tell me to stay busy, stay busy, stay busy. So there are also books galore beside my bed, over 100 movies in my netflix que, a gym bag ready at all times, and oh, plenty and plenty of housework that's pretty much never-ending! Dishes, death, and taxes -- the three certainties in life. :-P

My Brother's Etsy Shop!

I started selling on Etsy in February of 2009. At the time I was raving to my family and friends about how much I loved the site. I had been selling on Ebay for quite a few years before finding Etsy, but knew the change was inevitable once I started seeing the benefits of switching.

Around that time, my brother Mark started taking an interest in what I was doing. Keep in mind my brother has always been amazing at decorating his apartment in some of the cutest vintage housewares -- so much so that for a few years now we've called him "Marky Stewart". He started becoming very curious about having an online business for himself because he'd been working for a company that he disliked, and believe me, I ALWAYS got to hear about it. It was around 4 months after one of these conversations that my brother finally decided to start his own lil' Etsy shop with his partner Jeff. The name of their shop came from two adorable new marmalade kittens they had just adopted at the time named Boots and Gus.

BootsnGus now has over 16,000 admirers on Etsy, have been in the Etsy finds more times than I can count, and have also been featured in 2 magazines; Natural Home and Garden and more recently Better Homes & Gardens online. Congrats, my boys! I really love how these two work together as a team on their shop, it's very inspiring to me! Kinda makes me wish I had a business partner at times...

While my brother still maintains the stocking up / interest in the vintage housewares and now vintage books and records (he has so many great ones in his possession not yet listed!) it is JEFF who is responsible for the popular light fixture creations. One thing I greatly admire about Jeff is that he never ever puts a limit on his imagination. He's really made me appreciate the idea of upcycling so much more than I ever have in the past.

Consistenly inspired by their 4 adorable cats, Bootsngus has certainly made a permanent home on Etsy. I'm really proud of these two for taking a risk and starting their own business! As busy as they've been with so much online exposure and many sales, they haven't regretted one day of working for themselves! Cheers, guys!

Hello again blogger friends. First let me apologize for my little spell of being absent from here within the last couple of weeks or so. You know those moments in life when it is absolutely necessary to take some time for yourself? I was essentially having one of those moments between mid September and about last weekend. Instead of going into detail, (I'll save that for a later post this week) I wanted to share some of the pretties I've been hoarding for the last few weeks.

Creatures and Comforts

hello there friends. I'm still alive. If I haven't blogged for almost a week I always feel terrible about it and that lasts for about another week. oh the guilt! I've been a little out of sorts lately because I had a wisdom tooth extracted on Monday and I've been on pain relievers non-stop since then. My brain's starting to feel a little fuzzy. But that particular tooth had been giving me trouble all last week, so I'm glad I got it taken care of when I did.

Just wanted to share a few recent photos since I haven't in a while. I'm also dedicating this post to Ms. AnDee Barrett, creator of what came to be my weekly inspiration, Fit to Be Seen. I'm saddened that she recently closed her blog but just wanted to mention that I *always* loved the beautiful images and honesty of her posts. There's something about the realness of her writing that makes me feel connected and reminds me to be grateful. Thank you Andrea. And just to let you know. . . I'll follow you wherever your next space happens to be. :)

Fell in love with these flowers from my neighbor's yard this summer. I think they're called Moon Flowers. Every time I'd really stop to look at one I couldn't help but to think of the word, "perfect".

Mr. Green. Walked outside of my apartment to find this little guy just, you know, chilling out on my plant. He stayed still the entire time I photographed him!

September's First Shop Update

Friends, it's happening. The days are already shorter, it's starting to get darker earlier. Temps have dropped drastically within a matter of only a few days, (wasn't I JUST at the beach a few days ago and it was near 100 degrees?) My mitten state is wild at heart, and one of my favorite seasons is pretty much here even if the calendar says it isn't so just yet. I kinda get sad seeing all of the blackberries nearly gone! My son Lukas just started school today and I wiped away a few tears as I drove away. This is THE most nostalgic time of the year for me. . . any of you feel the same way? While you're thinking on it, enjoy the first shop update of September, complete with browns, burgundies, plaid, some wool, and a bit of pink just for that lil' Lola Vintage touch. ;)

Whew! Leaves little time for the self, which is VITALLY necessary in my life, so I've been taking every last sip of the not-long-enough drink that is summer, and now I feel like one of those kids with a big straw sucking out the few drops in the bottom of the cup. I'm not complaining, I'm happy that I can count on 2 more months of guaranteed warm-ish weather before winter hits!

Picked up this little vintage 80s sailor romper sometime earlier this summer. I *adore* sailor styles. But when I put this together I completely felt like a camp counselor! haha! It's almost too costume-y for my liking, but I wanted to get some pics for fun. When I wore it out, I had to remove the little red tie, it just seemed too much, too young or something. (last pic) Suddenly it occurred to me how my style has very much changed from my 20's to my 30's.

Hope all of you are enjoying these last days of August! Soon enough we're going to be seeing pictures of pumpkins & leaves changing color on our favorite blogs, sipping apple cider on these cooler evenings. Truth be told I always start craving pumpkin pie around the beginning of September. :)

Friends and loyal customers of Lola Vintage, if you haven't already heard Etsy's new default relevancy search has been bringing sellers a little down in the dumps for the last week or so. But I keep telling myself, I MUST NOT let this get to me and make me stop doing what I love to do! Here's the latest batch of goodies since the new change, and fret not if you don't see an item listed just yet, it's coming today for sure! I think the trick (for sellers) with the new searching algorithm is to try to think like Google! We'll see, though, I'm still in the process of reworking all of my listings. I love when the Vogue & Elle Collections issues come out! Makes for quite an indulgent afternoon sipping an iced mocha while spending a couple hours looking over what's new on the runway.

Stella McCartney's black dotted illusion lace dresses were some of my favorites. They're pretty sexy, but still leave a bit to the imagination. I like how the lines of the different materials do something interesting with the silhouette. I'd really have to be feeling a little daring to wear some of these though! The peplum pantsuit (4th one down) is my absolute favorite. I'd LOVE to rock that outfit with red lipstick & shiny heels!

Since the pieces above are most likely well over most of our budgets, here are some more affordable and similar dotted illusion pieces from ETSY. The second one (the blouse) has tiny little dotted hearts. Cute!

Killer Bagel, on Bread

Hello friends! Hope you don't mind the occasional food post from me! While I wouldn't define myself as a "foodie" since those aficionados seem much more well-informed than myself, I would call myself a food LOVER.
Long ago when I was in college there was a coffee shop a few blocks away that served something called Killer Bagels. I was crazy about 'em! Usually I would order mine with an Asiago bagel. (so delish!) but since I didn't have bagels at the time I made these little open faced sandwiches below, I just decided to put it on Asiago bread instead. (Trader Joe's has an awesome loaf! ) I also used goat cream cheese instead of regular. If you're interested in making these just layer these in order:

Toasted Asiago bread or bagel
Cream cheese
Lettuce blend, or just spinach leaves
Thinly sliced Tomatoes & Cukes
Nutritional Yeast & Salt & pepper to taste

Let me know if you try it and like it! It's one of my favorite light mid-day lunches!

Going Greener

Happy Saturday, blogger friends! I think this is the only green blouse I own. Maybe even the only green piece of clothing that is part of my closet! When I spotted it, I knew it was for me. The puffy sleeves, wide neckline, fitted seams - so pretty. AND it's vintage 1950's, made of a super comfy cotton, and zips on the side. Keeper!

Oh, and this post isn't just about my blouse! As the title suggests, I'm celebrating this week of being the 2nd week in a row that I've juiced every single day. My brother kept urging me to watch the movie Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead and after I viewed it, I was sold! I've had a juicer for about 2 years now, but have only used it regularly about once a week, or when I felt I was needing a little vitamin boost. (nights after drinking!) The last picture is one of my favorite blends lately: kale, a bit of watercress, cucumber, granny smith apples, guava, and cucumber. I've been trying to incorporate as many greens into the juices as I can handle, some blends are way too bitter for my liking. (no more mustard greens for this girl!) But, I've been feeling so great since I've been juicing every day! I highly recommend it -- you know it can only be good for you getting that much fresh produce in your system in one day!

I'll save the longer version of this story for another blog post, but the movie wasn't the only reason why I started to take my health more seriously. Two years ago I was diagnosed with a thyroid disorder that makes me feel like I'm hungry WAY too much. Not only that, I'm prone to crave salt, which we all know makes our bodies retain water. NOT FUN, let me tell you! I feel like I've been battling with my energy levels for the last couple of years, and in the process have gained weight that has very much challenged my view of health, diet, and exercise. . . More on this later, I promise! For now, BOTTOMS UP to greens! ;)

Rescued Images of Clarence H. White

One of my recent finds while out and about thrifting was an early 1970s Camera magazine. The two photographers featured were Diane Arbus and Clarence H. White. While I was familiar with the work of the former, Mr. White was someone whose work I'd never seen before. I instantly fell in love with these images, and saved the magazine, (which was falling apart at the seams) so that I could frame his work and put it up in my apartment. Now I just need to find the right spot in my place to display these lovely women.

During his lifetime he was widely recognized as a master of the art form for his consummate sentimental, pictorial portraits and for his excellence as a teacher of photography. My favorites of all of the images are the girls playing the game in the sun-lit room, and both of the pictures in the last photo. Beautiful!

Welcome, August

Happy August, everyone! I'm still in disbelief that all of June and July 2011 are now just memories! It's alright though, because we have a definite month of summer yet ahead of us, right? My son is away at camp, but I'll get to pick him up this Sunday and I can't wait! I'm missing him like crazy. Parent visits and phone calls are discouraged, (camp focuses on independence) but I was able to send him a little care package full of goodies. Remember how fun it was getting packages as a kid? Gosh, it's STILL fun, what am I talking about! :)

Shoulder Ties Sun Dress

One of my favorite things to wear in the summer time is the cotton sun dress with shoulder ties! It really reminds me of being a little girl sometimes. Remember wearing those cute little smocked sun dresses growing up? I also love this one because it's fun twirlin' in that super full tiered skirt! Super comfortable cotton too. Paired it with a leather belt that honestly gets paired with nearly all of my sun dresses, I like it that much.

The rose necklace is pretty special to me. It reminds me of my Grandma because she used to wear something very similar. My sis is now the lucky owner of Gram's original rose necklace, but I found one that is just as pretty, and the sentiment is still there.♥

Check out our garden's progress! I've been using that basil fresh off the stem for homemade pizza, and the kale I planted myself! :) The blackberries are what I'm most thrilled about, though. There are seriously a TON growing in our far backyard. It's great because even if I go out and pick a bowlful one day, another bowlful is ready the very next day. Mmmmm berry pie & vanilla ice cream is heaven on a hot summer evening, my friends!

Dresses for the Countryside

I grew up on ten acres in the middle of NOWHERE. Seriously there existed 1 grocery store and 1 gas station in the entire little town where my dad decided to build his house back in the early 1980's. Back then, I never appreciated it half as much as I do now. There is really something to be said about peace and quiet and all of that LAND to enjoy on the countryside! Every time I visit my parents I dress differently than I do in the city in which I now live (app. 3 hours away). Just looking through my little shop, I'm reminded of how living in the country has affected what pieces I decide to choose for the shop!

That first dress (1970's Calico Cotton Dirndl) is my faaaaaavorite right now.

p.s. that is my dad in the bottom picture, tending to his horses on a misty afternoon. He's been crazy about those pretty animals ever since I've known him! ;)

Shadow Art Fair, Summer 2011

Sorry I haven't yet had an opportunity to share these pics! There's a local arts & crafts show held twice a year near me called
The Shadow Art Fair
and I got a chance to go last weekend before heading up north to see my family. One of the best parts about the event is that it's held in a brewery with a huge outdoor area to sit & chat with friends while listening to music from a few local bands. And of course it's always fun seeing what sorts of things creative people are up to!

My favorites of all were the framed Mittens of Michigan, and the photography of fellow Etsy seller Stephanie Bracciano. (see last photo) Her shop, Deep Within the Armoire is here. It was neat to meet many other Etsy sellers at the fair this year! It's always inspiring learning about the interests and talents of so many locals too.

Dance till you Drop (literally)

As much as I *love* to dance, I don't believe there is any amount of money that would ever persuade me to do what desperate couples were doing in the 1920's & early 1930's.
During an awfully difficult economic era, The Dance Marathons were endurance competitions that became a fad in which couples danced until they dropped (literally) for a chance to win cash prizes if they were lucky to be among the last of the contestants on the floor. Times must have been tough for people to be dancing in these contests for as long as they did (some lasted months, yes, MONTHS) to beat out their competitors. The marathons also served as a form of cheap live entertainment for the many, many people who made up the audience. Kinda disturbing, isn't it?

Dancers were automatically disqualified if either partner's knees touched the floor.

Dancers were usually given 15 minutes every hour for rest/bathroom use/etc. I cannot imagine how many people must have felt like they were going crazy after such an odd sleeping pattern. The exhaustion must have been unbearable!

I'm on a history kick lately, and this is the library book (below) I found myself absorbed with this week. This youtube video makes me sad to watch, but it shows actual footage of some of the marathons that were held in the U.S. I couldn't believe the parts where dancing couples would just suddenly FALL DOWN, sometimes toppling over their partners. How horrible! There's also a movie based on the marathons called "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" starring Jane Fonda. Find the trailer here.

The Red Rose Girls

We've been taking many trips to the library during these summer days as a result of Lukas being off of school now. Last Thursday we spent nearly 4 hours there after I became lost in this beautiful {true} story of the 3 women known as The Red Rose Girls. Some of their names sounded familiar to me because they're artists, but I never knew the story behind their work.

Elizabeth Shippen Green, Violet Oakley, and Jessie Willcox Smith were three artist friends who made a pact with each other to live together forever. During the time of their lives together at the Red Rose Inn, (the early 1900's) the women were highly prolific and created some of their BEST work. The woman "tending" to the roses in the picture below is Henrietta Cozens, another friend of the three, and the keeper of the house and all other domestic responsibilites. Love this picture!

I found the story particularly interesting because of the pact they had made with one another. What if one of these women wanted out eventually? That very thing happened when Elizabeth Shippen Green met a young man and married. But it wasn't without grief that she moved away from the close friends she thought of as her sisters.

Violet in her studio (below) became famous for her murals and work in stained glass, while Elizabeth and Jessie were both appreciated for their illustrations.

I couldn't help getting caught up in the story of these three women! I found the unconventional way they chose to live most of their lives (especially for the era) very interesting. Imagine having no domestic responsibilities and being able to be creative all the day long, all while having the support and inspiration of a few creative dear friends!

That 70's Girl

Lots of pretty goodies from the 1970's have been making their way into the shop this summer! I'm crazy about that first pantsuit - the color, the sleeves, the high waist! I just know some tiny girl is gonna rock that outfit!

The second dress pictured is an XL, it's not often I find such a cute dress in a larger size, but I'm always happy when I do. I want my shop to be full of vintage pretties for ALL sizes! That's something I continue to work on.

I'm off this weekend to my family reunion for my Dad's side. And in two more weekends from now, it will be time to for a reunion on my Mom's side, what a busy month!!

J.A.M. for July

It was on the daydream lily blog that I saw this cute little post called J.A.M, which stands for Just A Minute. It's a little break from regular blogging to let your bloggers (especially the new ones) in on what's keeping you busy currently in life. Thought I'd do one today since I've noticed a few new followers and commenters lately. :)

Here's what I've been up to!

Loving . . . summer, SO much I can't even tell you! Hands down my favorite season, and I think just laying in the grass watching clouds is so very underrated. Being able to spend time with my niece, nephew, and son is also so PRECIOUS to me. They're crazy happy when they get to see one another as well, and it's so funny being the one telling them, "you know when I was your age. . ." now! I still vividly recall my elders saying the same thing to me, seems like just yesterday. ;)

Reading. . . Many cookbooks lately, actually. I feel like summer is such a creative time, and I'm trying my best to learn some new recipes to keep my taste buds excited throughout the year. Oddly loving being in the kitchen, but cooking has a way of calming me it seems, any of you feel this way as well? Also reading Fuel, poems by Naomi Shihab Nye, and I LOVE this one so much.

Listening to . . . The High Highs, introduced to me by a twitter friend Ruby Heels Vintage. Love 'em! Also recently found out about Esperanza Spalding. She's pretty amazing, huh?

Watching . . . Twin Peaks! Never was able to view it during the 90's so when I found it on netflix, I knew what would be taking over the next few weeks of my evenings at home. It's SO weird, but entertaining nonetheless. The odd characters are the best part! Also love watching Jack dig holes & try to catch fireflies in the backyard. Is he adorable or what?!

Buying. . . my brother recently gave me an essential oil diffuser and I'm IN LOVE with it lately. I've always wanted to get into aromatherapy, and I've been really excited about buying new essential oils now. It's neat how scents can really have an effect on your mood. My favorite oils so far are tea tree, eucalyptus, and lemon. They make my apartment smell so lovely!

Wanting. . . this dress from AntiqueAddictions on Etsy. No idea where I would even wear it to, but it's pretty gorgeous, isn't it?

Working on. . . being organized, believe it or not! It's really just papers. Papers galore! Pictures too. These things all need a place and I think I need to invest in more filing organizers and photo albums. I try to set aside at least an hour every day just focusing on organizing. (least favorite hour of the day) :-p

Wishing. . . That my parents lived closer to me. And that I wrote more in my journal. And that I could be a better blogger with many more outfit posts. ;)

It's almost Friday, friends! How is your week going? Just wanted to post a little Thursday shop update before the weekend gets here and everyone disappears from the internet! ;) Summer seems to be so quiet in the Etsy world it seems. My twitter and facebook even seem much less active than usual. But hey, can I blame people for wanting to be outside in the sunshine and away from the computer screen for a while? Absolutely NOT! I'm the same way. Been highly enjoying the free summer festival in my town. Almost every night there is a music show, and weekday evenings there's a different movie set up outside after the music. It always reminds me of going to the drive-in with my family when I was a little girl.

About this update: sometimes I find that when I rearrange my shop, I wind up discovering what would look great together. What do you think, did I pair these up alright? Also realizing I buy way too many little black dresses!

Luminarium - Architects of Air

How happy I was when my friend told me about this wondrous attraction happening at the local summer festival in our town! Below is the Amococo Luminarium, a brilliantly lighted walk-through set of connected domes, semi-resembling a child's moonwalk structure on the outside, but without the bouncy bottom on the inside. It was, in a word, MAGICAL!

I LOVE surprising Lukas with neat little outings like this, and I think this particular one tops almost all of our little adventures in the past year!

The outside of the structure reminded me of a cartoon. I completely felt like an overly excited child when we were waiting nearly 2 hours in line to get in!

Just before entering. We were both so eager to see what this Luminarium hype was all about!

There was peaceful music playing in the background, and I kept thinking of how awesome it would be to be completely alone inside with nothing but the quiet and light.

My friends enjoyed the experience so much too! I preferred the red light, to me it was the most calming.

The top of the red dome looked like the sun on the horizon. Love the way this pic turned out of Lukas & his friend!

Lukas kept saying he felt like a little worm in his holey worm home underground. I'm so happy he loved it! :)

High School Besties!

Finally getting around to posting a few pics of when my high school best friend came to visit. This is Pahoua Monique. {Pa-hoo-a} I call her Poohbear. ;) A couple of years ago I visited her in down in Miami. I hadn't seen her since then. She used to live in Detroit, but moved shortly after the scary Michigan economy started going down, so I really can't blame her. It was sooo good to see this girl when she came back to the mitten though! When she moved to my high school in our 10th grade year, we hit it off immediately. I loved her excited nature, she screams this cute little scream when something grand happens, and it's how I know good news is coming when I answer her phone calls! I was floored by her closet in high school and even now -- she's the friend I mentioned who keeps her clothes organized by color. (we're so different!) But she's got such a cute style, and because we are very similar in size, it was a blast trading clothes as teens!

Back in our senior year we had decided we'd live together, attend the same school, and all of the other things high school besties plan out together. Funny how things change, huh?! She is now a logistics genius in the corporate world in Miami and I'm still in the mitten, now running my own little vintage shop online. I just wish I still had all of those vintage dresses from our thrifting days way back then!

Do any of you girls still keep in contact with your high school best friend? Isn't it fun to rehash memories of adolescence together? ;)

Turquoise & Red

I love this color combination! And can you believe I'm actually doing an outfit post finally?! I was pretty excited about thrifting these cute little high waist shorts recently, had to show & tell. Not only are they my favorite shade of perfect red, they're SILK, and so incredibly comfortable! That little top is cotton gauze, so the whole get-up is pretty easy to wear. And though I don't often wear high heels with shorts, the ones in the pic are some of my favorites, and I thought they matched well. Also {sidenote} the camera caught me while I was spraying myself - the bugs are TERRIBLE out in our backyard right now, and if you dislike deet as much as I do, here's a homemade insect repellant that works! I actually really love the way it smells too. :)

What are all of you planning for the weekend? My siblings and I are going to visit my dad for Father's day and meet his new horse! I'm pretty excited, and it is really cute to see how thrilled my dad gets anytime he gets any new animal. Pics to come!

I'm also feeling swamped lately with the busy-ness that comes with the season: graduations galore, a few new babies in my extended family, and a reunion coming up next month. The days on my calendar are getting well marked up, that's for sure. But it's exciting, so no complaints here!

In shop news, I'll be listing some pretty sheer dresses this week, along with a whole lotta shoes! Some of these below will be added tonight, and the rest during the week. As you know, I love the brights, so the colorful pairs caught my eye instantly when I purchased them for the shop. Aren't those teal lace ankle boots fun!? They're begging to be worn to an 80's party!

We all need to gripe sometimes, don't we? This weekend I made a big change in my life, it was a hard decision to come to terms with but I think in the long run it will be what is best for me. I know that this might sound a little crazy, but Oprah Winfrey's last show had something to do with it. ;) I know, I'm such a sap, huh? But yeah, I was one of the people bawling while viewing that last show when it aired!

I had been griping for a while with close family and friends about my relationship. Something just wasn't making me happy, as hard as I was trying to be, (and I was trying hard). It's very difficult when you truly love someone, and deep down there's a voice telling you that that person isn't right for you, no matter how much you care about them. And being the 2nd guesser that I innately am, I am always questioning my own decision making. It's enough to drive a gal batty, let me tell you!

But I did it. I ended my relationship. It's been a rough couple of days, but I feel a sense of relief and believe it or not, excitement already for the future. I even thought about documenting my dating from here on out via my blog. I don't know though. All I can say is that I'm dealing with some new territory now with this single lady stuff, and being a single mama and dating is another cup of tea altogether, believe me!

I know many, many of my twitter & blogger friends are either married or with someone, so this is my time to ask you for your support, single ladies! I'm kinda nervous. . . but still ready to celebrate! After all, it is the beginning of summertime, naturally my happiest time of the year since forever!

Orchestra was never offered at the elementary school I attended when I was younger. I would have loved to learn to play the violin! It surprised me when my son took an interest in playing the cello when band & orchestra were introduced into the curriculum last year. He's done so well with it these last couple of years. I finally listed that 1920's dress I had such a hard time listing. It's just so beautiful, I wanted to keep it in my possession. Though it doesn't fit me, it's just nice to look at. (Vintage hoarder, I am!) There are a few more recently listed pieces in this bunch. I hope someone gives that draped silk blouse a good home. I was thinking of having it altered to fit me, I love it so much. Don't you love backless styles for warm weather? Expect more lacey, pretty things in the coming summer months! Stripes for the Rapture

Happy Sunday! I know it's not very exciting, but this was my end-of-the-world outfit yesterday. Just the other day I was lamenting the loss of this sailor dress that sold in the shop about a year ago & though I am the only one to blame for that, (it no longer fit me & at the time I decided it probably never would again) I have forgiven myself & am now on the search for another sailor dress that makes my heart happy. I know this dress above isn't the typical sailor dress, but I recently fell kinda giddy over it due to its bit of nautical flair, & the bow at the waist is pretty cute too. It's also super light, comfortable, and semi-sheer - and even though I have read many times that drop waists weren't made for the petite gal, I do love the way it fits. It has what I like to call an "easy fit". But . . . why do I suddenly feel like that comes from some 80's jean commercial? ;) Sorry I look sad in this pic, the sun was just starting to go down and it started raining shortly thereafter, but no earthquakes or disappearing people. I'm going to be listing some pretty rad 80's pieces soon, ladies! If you've followed my blog for a while, you know how much I adore this time period. It's the time when I was a little girl and envied my aunts for being grown ups and spending their Friday & Saturday evenings getting all dressed up to go out. Ahh, their outfits! Puff sleeves, pastel knits, acid washed jeans, bright "pumps" and all! ;) But I can't say they were the only influence on me! I can't even look at a bright strapless mini dress without thinking of my favorite multi-color haired 1980s singer. Honest to Betsey, I remember watching this woman on TV back then and wanting nothing more than to BE HER when I grew up. Was inspired to share this with all of you when I was looking at outfits I'm planning for my next 80's night out!

It's true, this flash of brilliant color, this adorable skirt-spinning pixie embodied SPUNK to my young little girl mind. With her free-spirited attitude and fearless fashion sense, she seemed like *the* definition of FUN in my book. Here she is, my #1 girlhood idol! Oh, and if you were wondering, YES, the title of my tumblr blog is surely inspired by her. ;) Seriously, how can you not just love a woman who sings a song called, "Girls just wanna have fun"?

Today was glorious! The weather was - dare I say it before it suddenly starts hailing or something of the sort here in the unpredictable mitten? PERFECT. I feel lucky to live in a big house with a backyard and some woods surrounding one side. I actually live in an apartment inside of the house, but there is only one other apartment besides mine, and the tenants there are awesome people and thankfully, we get along superbly! (more about that later). ;)

We have 2 garden spaces out back, one for vegetables and herbs, and one for flowers. Aren't the bleeding hearts so lovely? I also tried to take a pic of the robin's nest I spoke of earlier on twitter.You can't see the mama robin inside, but she's there! I'd need a latter in order to get her close up.

My favorite pics of all are the ones of Lukas (my son) making, as he phrased it, "The Toad Hotel" for the toad he found earlier in the day. I cannot believe how long he spent on this little project. Made me so happy to see :)

Haven't done an outfit post in a while, so I also threw in a picture of what I was wearing for the day. (I will admit that when I got home from running errands, my slippers took the place of those gorgeous summer floral sandals).

Happy Mother's Day to my beautiful Mama!
No one in my life is or has been ever been as supportive to me as my mom, Amalia. I am grateful for the person she is and how she helps me see things in a more positive light when I so often need to. I couldn't ask for a better role model, and just wanted to dedicate this post and song to her. So happy to be spending today with her! Through the years I've realized how everyone in my family gravitates toward her, and when she's not around, it's never the same. Home is where the Mom is. :) What a special woman!

The Color List . . . For Reference!

Oh my goodness, I can't count the number of times I have found myself working on a listing and thinking, "there has got to be a better color name for this than just 'red'" or some other color of my item I'm posting to Etsy. I think putting color names in tags is pretty important as a seller, because 1. the more specific you are, the more likely that a person will be able to find your item and 2. many treasury makers (including myself) often times start their treasury based on a very specific color. (i.e. garnet instead of dark red) Does that makes sense?

I wanted to post this specifically for other sellers who, like me, sometimes spend way too long thinking of the perfect color name for an item! Well, here's what I've been using to sometimes jog my memory. I can take no credit for this so don't thank me, THANK WIKIPEDIA!! hahah!

ADDITIONALLY, years ago when I used to sell on ebay, this list was SO incredibly helpful when writing descriptions and title names. Believe me, both of these reference lists beat keeping a 64 crayola crayon pack at your desk pulling out each - one by one to find the right color name, ;)

Friends, I'm sorry if it seems like I'm so out of the blog loop lately. Sometimes I feel like I'm such a bad blogger. Oftentimes I find myself thinking "hmmm, what exactly does the world want to know about me?" And then I thought just today, "well what do I want to know about people usually? Why do I choose to read the blogs I choose to read?" I came up with this list, and it's surely not the end of it, just what I came up with at the top of my head. ;)

I apologize for the lack of my outfit/personal posts. I'm gonna try to start being better with them starting today. *fingers crossed* It's so much easier to do outfit posts when it's nice out, because I'd rather be taking pics outdoors, now I'm just waiting for Spring to really kick in here in the mitten!

Last week I was sooo happy to get a surprise visit from my college dorm mate. We met the very first day of move-in back in the late 90's. We've been friends ever since. Initially, she was not my roommate, but we changed that 2nd semester when we both realized we'd be much more suitable for living together than the first crazy dames we were paired with.

This is Sarah.
It was so nice to have this girl by my side when I was learning about the ins and outs of romantic relationships way back then! We were always relating to each other about how our feelings/issues with guys could be explained in a song, and had I never met her, I never would have been introduced to this band or this one among many others she put on mixed tapes for me! One of these days I'll scan some pics of us from our college days. It's pretty fun to see how much we've both changed!

Do any of you still keep in touch with your college roomies? So happy this girl & I are still friends! Unfortunately, she hates to shop (makes me laugh), but I can always count on her for some great conversation and many laughs about our good ole' college days. :)

Shoes for Sunnier Skies

I know I don't list shoes much, but lately I've been finding some AMAZING pairs that I've been snatching up immediately for my dear customers because if you're anything like me you like your feet to be able to breathe in the spring and summer.

These sandals and the crochet skimmers below make that possible. The wood heel I find quite irresistible as well. As a matter of fact, I'm flirting with the idea of somehow forcing my feet into those first sandals because I think they're pretty darn hot! Getting to know GRANDMA JUNE

I love finding out about new vintage sellers on ETSY! Often times they've been on Etsy for a while and are new to me. One such sweetie is Mandy of Grandma June. She's a purrrdy redhead from Maine who also moonlights as a band member of the Foam Castles. (See rockin' out picture below!) This is my first interview with a fellow etsy seller, and I'm hoping to do more in the future because it was fun getting to know about another vintage-lovin' dame in a different part of the world. I am especially fond of her last answer, and finding out that both of us were highly influenced by the style of our Grandmas! :)

~ Meet the girl behind GRANDMA JUNE ~

1. What's your name and in what state do you currently reside?
My name is Amanda Louise Wheeler (Mandy!), and I live in South Portland, Maine.

2. How did you get started with Etsy?
You know, to be honest, I can't really remember! Hahaha! I think I must have just stumbled across the site, and thought that it was awesome. So often would I go to a thrift store, find something unbelievably fantastic, but not be able to buy it because it wasn't my size. Starting my shop was incredibly exciting because it meant I could buy all of those items and share them with other fashionable ladies!

3. Describe your perfect day.
I think my perfect day depends on my mood. Lately I've been craving long road trips on sunny days. I love driving around Maine, it is truly as scenic as they say it is. I am longing for summer in the worst way. Just today I was out on the road, and seeing that the grass was turning green really made my day! I love the ocean, shopping, and cuddling with my cats, so my perfect day would probably include those things, as well.

4. What fashion icon (past or present) do you most admire?
Well, my grandmother is my #1 fashion icon, for sure. Her taste was impeccable, and the way she paired pieces together was, well, THE BEST. Even her taste in decor was incredible. I've looked up to many fashionable females throughout the years though, including Chrissie Hynde, Ingrid Bergman, Little Edie, and Coco Chanel.

5. What continually inspires you?
I think the ever-changing fashion trends inspire me. I love combining styles from different decades. My state inspires me, and so does the weather. The local girls here dress WELL, and I love checking everyone out! Maine is way more fashionable than you'd think!

6. List your current favorite: book, movie, and song.
My favorite book is by Haruki Murakami, and it's called "Kafka on the Shore". My favorite movie is a hard one to answer because it depends what I'm in the mood for. Lately, my favorite directors have been Sofia Coppola and Wes Anderson, and my favorite actors are Bill Murray, Ingrid Bergman, and Shirley MacLaine. My favorite song is also completely impossible for me to answer, but I will say that my favorite band of all time is the Pretenders.

7. Your best advice for other sellers.
If you don't love it, don't buy it. Specifically I am speaking of the items in your shop. I think it's so extremely important to show your style in your shop, and not just buy anything because it's old. I only sell items that I stand strongly behind, and that I'd wear myself if it was my size/color/whatever. I always encourage people to look at my "favorites" on Etsy, so they can see my style and then figure out if we think the same way about fashion. Then of course there is the Etsy 101 rules, like take clear photos, and update your shop as often as you can. Ship items quickly, and with care.

8. The one vintage item you own that you'll never give up, not in a million years IS. . .
My wall of hats in my bedroom that was passed down to me from my grandmother, Grandma June.

Wretches & Jabberers Soundtrack

I'm always on the hunt for new music, and have fallen in love with many movie soundtracks in my life. Three that immediately come to mind are those from the movies Pumpkin, Buffalo 66, and Frida.

So just the other day, when I was browsing youtube hoping to find some songs from Buffalo 66 sung by Vincent Gallo, I was pleased to find a new song performed by him, from the recently released Wretches & Jabberers soundtrack. It was LOVE at first play. The best part is, all 20 of the original songs from the soundtrack are on youtube for listening. I listened to every single one of them within the last week, and the soundtrack has now made the list as a new favorite. Lovely listening for your Sunday, girls! AND, I've taken all of the work out of clicking on separate links for each track. I made a youtube playlist you'll find below of every song, in order as it appears on the cd.

Some of those names below should give you an idea of how great the music will be. The movie is a documentary about two Autistic men, Tracy Thresher and Larry Bissonnette, who, according to the website, go into the world to "change attitudes about disability and intelligence." It comes out this month, and is now on my list of movies to watch this spring.

Clothes I Never Wear

How often do you stand in front of your closet and see clothes you cannot remember wearing, maybe EVER? Today I decided to do an outfit post on those so often ignored pieces.

This metallic peacock green dress I've owned for YEARS, and I've been telling myself I'm going to have it altered to fit me correctly for that long too. Procrastination city! The ruffled cream bolero I nearly forced myself to wear to a wedding I attended in California. Thankfully, it matched well I thought. But before that, I'd never worn it once. And those cute brown metallic tights I bought brand new, I had so many plans to wear them out with cute lil' black mini dresses! This photo is the very first time I've ever put them on! It's true. Happy to say I did have many nights out with those cute black bow high heeled shoes tho . . . in my twenties. . . *sigh*

What I've decided to do: I'm going to probably list the dress in my shop for someone it will actually fit right, give the bolero to my sis or a friend to have for a while. And I think I have to keep those tights & cute heels to wear them on my next date with my man. Oh, girls! The road to overflowing closets is paved with good intentions! ;)

My Heart is an Idiot

When I was 18 and fresh and new to the world of being an adult, I made a small documentary about love. I watched it about two summers ago and CRINGED. My idea about love and romance has changed SO much since I put that little video together years ago. But I still love to hear about what everyone else has to say on the subject, so when I saw that Davy Rothbart (creator of Found Magazine) made one about his love life and the turmoil in it, I knew I'd be marking my calendar to be one of the first to grab a seat. The movie makes it's world premiere in my town on April 22nd, and you bet I'll be there. I'm kinda nuts about lovey stuff like this, especially when it shows the ups AND the downs, because god knows relationships aren't always a bowl of cherries. Here's the trailer.

Just had to send out a special "Happy Birthday!" to one of my dearest friends ANGELA. I met Angie my freshman year of college and I always credit her to having a very positive effect on the way I think and view life. You know those kind of friends? They're the best! She even bought me this book one year for my birthday and it was such an eye-opening book to work through. She is also responsible for introducing me to one of my favorite bands of all time, The Squirrel Nut Zippers!

Many sparkling great moments have been had with this funny, creative girl! I LOVE her, dearly. And though many, MANY miles separate us. . . (she now lives in Spain with her husband) I think about her often. (She's basically the #1 reason why I'm setting up Skype soon!)

oh, and in college I called her "Angela Foodcake" hence the title of this post. :)

Aren't these pieces of jewelry GORGEOUS? I came upon them recently during my early Sunday morning guilt-free stumbling time. Would you believe me if I told you they're made from recycled PET plastic bottles? I could hardly believe it either. I LOVE the bright, transparent colors, and detailed delicate looking petals.

The woman who makes them, GULNUR OZDAGLAR GUVENC, also happens to be an Etsy shop owner. Along with lovely jewelry, she creates the coolest looking bowls, and unique buttons as well. So happy I came upon this shop because I was wondering what to get for my mom for Mother's Day!

The 1980's era has always been a favorite of mine, as evidenced in my shop inventory. ;)

I listed many items before I went on vacation, but never did an update of them all on the blog, so I'm just getting back to that now. Yes, dear friends, it's many a morning that I start my day with an 80's playlist consisting of about 50 of my favorite songs from my childhood - chock full of Duran Duran, Cyndi Lauper, The Pet Shop Boys, and The Go Gos just to name a few. What can I say, it's music that makes me happy!

My favorite fashion details about the 80's are metallics, puff sleeves, ruffled party dresses and most of all LACE. (Complete Madonna fan) Any fads from then that you really like?

California Trip in Pictures

While at the botanical gardens, I got too close to a cactus taking pics on macro setting and this is what happened! Don't worry, I was laughing, not crying.

My sis was in town the same time we were, was nice to meet up for a bit, she'd just bought those pretty earrings.

One of the highlights of the trip, picking fresh citrus off of trees just outside. I mean, COME ON! Paradise! :)

I posted many more pics on Flickr, but these were some of the highlights for me. I took SO many scenic photos, I couldn't believe it when I counted them all. Isn't it nice to get out of town for a while? The wedding we attended was also lovely as ever! I ended up finding out that it was the same place Christina Applegate was married!

This trip made me realize I probably won't be a mitten girl forever. The sunshine, fresh fruit just out the doorstep, warmth, and those breathtaking mountains have convinced me that I need to be in a warmer, sunnier climate for my overall happiness. No immediate plans as of yet, but I'm starting to really think about it.

On another note, I missed you blogger and twitter friends! Cannot believe I was without the internet for 5 days. I did manage to tweet from my little phone here and there, but that's about it. I was thrilled to see my son after over a week yesterday, and I'm feeling completely refreshed. Now it's time to return to routine, and get BACK TO WORK! Expect a shop update soon. :)

Sheer Ruffled Pink & a Surprise!

Why am I smiling? For a few reasons. First, I scored this ridiculously cute dress at a flea market recently at a great price. I initially wanted to call it the "Lola Vintage dress" just because if you put something in front of my face that is pink, ruffled and sheer, chances are I'll probabaly love it! :) The button detail and pintucks in front and back are also very much my cup of tea. Aren't those frilly cuffs just so doggone cute?

The second reason I'm smiling is because I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon to be in sunny California for a week with my honey. {Please keep this in mind in case you buy anything from tomorrow until The 30th, as shipping will be delayed.) We'll be attending his brother's wedding in Palm Springs and afterward we're going to try camping in the Joshua Tree National Park. SO INCREDIBLY EXCITED!

Brick Bash :: For the Love of Legos!

Saturday March 19th marked the first Brick Bash that my son and I attended together. By chance I found out about the event while looking on my local library's website. Really made me realize there is so much going on right in and around my town that I need to be checking out. We had so much fun, and the best part about it was that I kept it a complete surprise to my boy, he didn't know what was going on until we walked in. :) As a matter of fact, he was under the impression that we were going thrifting for the entire day (something he highly dislikes) and so to see the look on his face upon the awareness of where we were was PRICELESS! Sometimes it's so hard to keep the good surprises a secret! Here are some fun pics of of the event, that first one was my favorite. Isn't it amazing what some people have done with tiny little LEGOs? Mug Messages and a Hello

Hello blogger friends, sorry I haven't updated in almost a week, I have been feeling overwhelmed with the busy-ness that comes with the onset of spring, there seems to be a gazillion things I have to plan for ALREADY! I also visited my family last weekend, and it was so very nice to be home and away from the city and computer (for most of the time anyway), even if for a day or two. My trip to California is only about a week away, and I'm getting nervous just like I always do before I travel anywhere. Any travel anxiety tips? I'll be attending a wedding with my boyfriend in Palm Springs and our plans include possible camping in the Joshua Tree National Park, I'm SUPER excited!

Just wanted to say hello and give a little update about where I've been. Also wanted to share pics of these adorable little Holly Hobbie mugs and the cute little messages on them. A little while back my sister had me and some of our friends over and I was delighted that she served us a little treat in these! Aren't they cute?

I know it's a year old, but I find Alexis Mabille's Spring 2010 collection interesting. Some of the 2-colored designs reminded me of a person I met a couple of years ago. The one-sided bright hair is fun. Would you wear either of these outfits? I think I'd try the red and black one.

Happy Monday, friends! Just a quick update of a few beauties that have recently entered the shop! I'm starting to crush on the 40's & 50's more than I ever have! When I first started selling vintage on ebay years and years ago, I had a whole closet full of day dresses that I'm now kicking myself for ever getting rid of. (not that they'd fit me now, AT ALL) but I think I should have saved some for my niece probably, at least a few of my favorites anyway. I love the full skirted day dress, and couldn't wait to add that first purple one to the shop! She makes my etsy page look so pretty, I think. :) All of these pieces are perfect for a classy afternoon!

My favorite scene! Her swan dance in the yard.

Who knew that many years after I'd fallen in love with the song "Mabel" by the Juliana Hatfield Three, I'd find out that it was actually written as a tribute to a woman in a movie. Woman Under the Influence stars Gena Rowlands as an eccentric middle-aged wife and mother who will not accept that most people think she's crazy. Maybe she actually is a little nuts, but I love her spunk in this movie! Peter Falk costars as her husband. The movie is a bit long at almost 2 1/2 hours, but if you've got time you won't be disappointed in her performance. Be warned however, you may tear up more than once, this is a love story that will make your heart hurt a little. PC: Google

Denim in Bloom

What do you guys think about floral print jeans? I love 'em, and probably have since my high school years, but only when they're done right. Recently found these late 80's/early 90's Gap pair for the shop, but then OOPS tried them on and decided to keep. I think the variety of colorful flowers looks pretty against the chartreuse background, and I like the high waist fit too. These will definitely get plenty of wear for spring when I'm in the mood for florals and even more florals!
